Lower Antelope Canyon

Just outside Page Arizona on Navajo land are 2 separate canyons referred to individually as Upper Antelope and Lower Antelope Slot Canyons. These are the most photographed slot canyons in the American Southwest. Most tourists go to Upper Antelope because you can walk straight into it and its wider. Lower Antelope is more difficult to accesss going down ladders. Slot canyons are formed by the erosion of the limestone by flash flooding. In 1997 eleven tourists were killed in Lower Antelope by a flash flood. The formations left etched on the Navajo sandstone are truly beautiful
